Age Group

Age-Group

Age-group triathlon is for athletes 16 years of age and older. Whether you want to try a triathlon just for fun or participate in the highest age group races, the age-group level has something for everyone. Age-group triathlon races are categorized according to gender and age (generally in five year increments after the 16-19 age group). Athletes are grouped with and race against athletes in their age group.

The majority of TNS members are age-group athletes. Age-groupers compete in mainly non-draft legal triathlons in distances ranging from the SuperSprint (400m swim, 10km bike, 2.5km run) to the Ironman™ distance (3.8 km swim/180 km bike/42.2 km run) or longer! Full members of Triathlon Nova Scotia are also eligible to compete for a spot on Age-Group Team Canada and participate at Age-Group Worlds, held every year during the summer in different locations around the world. This is an excellent opportunity to race against the best age-group athletes across the globe.

Most races in Canada are offered as age-group races, and athletes sign up for their given age group. The level of triathlon racing can be placed on participation, fitness, and fun, or on a more serious focus. In most races, you’ll find first time athletes looking for a fun physical challenge, as well as seasoned age-groupers looking to qualify for the highest level of age-group racing.
