SafeSport
SafeSport is a nationally recognized training module developed by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), with the aim of promoting a safe sporting environment where everyone can succeed and thrive.
Triathlon Nova Scotia is committed to the SafeSport movement with recently updated policies to protect all stakeholders in the sport. All coaches and officials are required to be compliant with Triathlon Canada’s SafeSport standards.
SafeSport is about creating a culture of fairness and equity, and treating this principle as a shared responsibility. The program and training module are designed to identify and prevent instances of maltreatment in sport. CAC’s SafeSport training gives coaches of all levels of involvement in sport the ability and resources to identify and properly deal with maltreatment and abuse in sport on a physical, sexual, and psychological level. SafeSport values are aligned with the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport, which says that sport environments must be free from all acts of physical, sexual and psychological abuse. The SafeSport program gives coaches the ability to create positive environments that benefit athletes on both a physical and emotional level of health, and contributes to sport programs that offer a culture of positive experience and athlete achievement.
