In preparation for a busy 2022 season, Triathlon NS is hosting a draft skills/certification clinic in Dartmouth this May! This clinic is for young athletes (14 – 23yrs) who are interested in learning the necessary skills to pursue draft legal competition. If the athlete’s skill level is deemed sufficient at the end of the skills clinic they will be draft legal certified. Draft legal certification from Triathlon NS is recognized by Triathlon Canada and internationally, and is a critical skill in Triathlon Canada’s Gold Medal Profile, and required competency in Triathlon NS’s performance pathway.

Sunday May 29
11am – 1 pm
École Bois joli parking lot
École Bois-Joli
(902) 433-7070
https://goo.gl/maps/YgebQ3tV97zju7yK9

WHAT: Senior, certified cycling coaches will instruct athletes on proper techniques related to draft legal racing. The course promises to cover how to safely:

  • Ride in a peloton/paceline environment
  • Rotate positions within a paceline
  • Signal to communicate within a paceline
  • Position hands on the handlebars, maximizing safety
  • Employ emergency maneuvers and proper braking procedures within a paceline
  • Remove, drink, and replace water bottle while riding in a paceline
  • Use all gears effectively
  • Apply proper cornering techniques
  • Apply seated and standing climbing techniques
  • Apply the ‘long and low’ position to maximize aerodynamic efficiency

Athletes demonstrating relevant competencies will receive a Certificate issued by Triathlon NS upon completion of this clinic.

Pre-requisite: This clinic aims to build upon the skillset of athletes that already have basic cycling competencies in place.  Athletes will be cycling in a pack environment; all participants attending Draft Clinics must already possess basic cycling competencies.

Please note: The use of a road-specific bike with drop bars is required.  Riders with Mountain bikes, and time trail specific bicycles are not permitted to ride in groups but will be allowed to participate in the individual skill-building.  Only bicycles in good functional maintenance will be permitted.

2022 Canada Summer Games Expression of Interest https://triathlonnovascotia.ca/2022-canada-summer-games-expression-of-interest/ Mon, 28 Mar 2022 17:51:33 +0000 https://triathlonnovascotia.ca/?p=11379

The Canada Games, held every two years, alternating between summer and winter, are the largest multi-sport event in the country and represent the pinnacle of interprovincial/territorial sport competition. As the best in their age group, young competitors come to the Games having trained long and hard to be among those chosen to represent their respective province or territory.

Since 1967, nearly 100,000 athletes have participated in the Games with hundreds of thousands having engaged in try-outs and qualifying events. Add to that the over 100,000 coaches, officials and volunteers that have been directly involved in the planning and staging of the Games and you have some idea as to the enormous reach of the Canada Games over a proud history.

Canada has a proud history in the sport of triathlon, growing the first provincial, national, and international governing bodies for the sport. First taking place at the Canada Summer Games in 2009, the 2022 Games will play host to three separate triathlon events; a Sprint Triathlon, Supersprint Triathlon and a Mixed Team Relay, all of which will take place between August 6th and August 13th, out of the Welland International Flatwater Centre in Niagara, Ontario.

Triathlon NS would like to invite male and female athletes, between the age of 16 and 21 as of December 31, 2022, to participate in the selection processes for the 2022 Canada Summer Games.

To start receiving regular updates about the Games and the qualifying criteria, please submit an Expression of Interesting
