What Do Officials Do?

Officials have a range of roles and responsibilities based on their level of certification. Generally speaking, officials must ensure that the event is safe and fair for the competitors. It is their job to uphold the fundamental rules of the sport. (“What do you mean I’m too close to the person in front of me?”)

A Level 1 official can officiate at any race and can be placed anywhere on the course. A Level 2 official can be a technical director for a race or a head referee. L2 is also required to be a race director.
