The use of disc brakes in triathlon has been a moving target over the last few seasons. This has caused much confusion.
For the 2018 season, the ITU have simplified considerably the rules surrounding disc brakes (ITU Competition Rules 2018, 5.2.). As of now, disc brakes are allowed in all competitions; non-drafting events, age-group draft legal and Elite/U23/Junior Draft legal. Disc brakes have always been allowed in cross triathlon/duathlon and winter triathlon.
We haven’t gone soft however, your handlebars still need to be plugged!
